During May 2011, when smart phones and social media were just beginning, I installed a large cement foot in the back of my pickup truck. I drove my foot around New York City and parked it at popular locations. I documented the interactions with people via a live web cam and occasionally a handheld camera. Video streamed live from the truck to the website (http://footinthetruck.com) and could be viewed on mobile devices. This allowed spectators to observe the piece, including themselves. When not live, the website showed sample images and movies. The intention of Foot-in-the-Truck was to stimulate interpersonal communication by combining traditional sculpture with technology. Foot-in-the-Truck utilized social media (at it's inception), humor and classicism to stimulate curiosity and conversation. The piece strived to engage a diverse cross section of people and to provide unsuspecting passersby with a moment of art in an unexpected venue.
