Miggy Buck constructs site-specifc outdoor installations intended for display in public spaces. Her pieces are large and resolved, yet minimalist and surrealist. She uses scaled-up body parts to play with the viewer’s preconceived notions on ordinary topics, such as geometry, biology, architecture and history, as well as social interactions. Interested in mass appeal, she draws on these themes to cross demographic and psychographic boundaries. In addition to using a vocabulary everybody can relate to, she utilizes humor and aesthetics to increase the public appeal of her work. For the same reason, she prefers to work with common building materials such as cement, steel, wood and plaster to sculpt the refined forms that make up her installations. Her work engages the viewer through the comfort of the familiar, then entertains them with the unexpected.
